Minecraft's Big Wilderness Update Arrives June 7th

It took several months, but Minecraft's The Wild Update is nearly available. Mojang and Microsoft will launch The Wild on all platforms on June 7 and it's as extensive as they claimed. The update includes two biomes, a mangrove swamp and the "deep dark" which conceals vicious mobs (such as the Shrieker and Warden) and also special resources. You can also use in a boat equipped with a chest so you don't need to leave supplies behind in case you're traveling across a lake.

The upgrade also includes an Mud block (made by mixing water and dirt, naturally), a crowd-voted item collector mob (the allay) and a frog that develops from tadpoles. If it is attacked by magma, it could even cause "froglights".

The debut comes a while after Mojang was forced to reconsider its expansion strategy. The deep dark biome was originally meant to appear in 2021, but it was added to The Wild as the developer grappled with the size of its two-part Caves and Cliffs Update. While it isn't unexpected that the Minecraft team is determined to keep its game relevant over 10 years after its launch however, the timeline suggests that it may have been a bit eager to please.
