How to unlock your Vehicle

Modern electronic key fobs provide greater convenience and function compared to a manual key. However, they do require batteries that eventually get worn out and need to be replaced. If your Volvo key fob has started to malfunction intermittently, it's a good sign that the battery is failing and will need to be replaced soon.

You can replace the Volvo key fob batteries yourself by following few simple steps. Find a clean surface to work on. Then, lay out all the tools you need. Then, locate the battery's hatch, and turn it open using the flathead, a coin, or other similar tool. After that, carefully remove the battery by lifting the side closest to the hook on the key-ring. Use rubber gloves to protect the electronic contact surfaces.

After the battery is removed, insert the new one in its socket. Make sure the positive side of the battery is facing upwards, and that all clips are secured. Then, slide the cover back downwards and towards the key-ring loop until it becomes loose and slips off. Then, take off the cover to reveal the mechanical key blade, which is hidden inside. You can use this to unlock your car from the driver's seat when you've lost or damaged your key fob.

How to Start Your Vehicle

Modern vehicles are usually equipped with key fobs that can do more than simply unlock or lock the doors. They can also be used to perform functions like summoning and auto parking the vehicle. In fact, the brand new Volvo XC60 can even remotely start your engine using its key fob buttons. But what exactly is it that works?

First, find an area of clean work surface on which you can lay out all of the necessary items for this project. Then lay the fob on the work surface with its Volvo logo facing upwards. Then you will need a flathead screwdriver or coin or similar device to open the battery hatch to the open position. Be careful not to touch the electronic contact surfaces of the fob using your tools, as this could cause the fob's key to stop functioning properly.

Once the hatch is opened, place the battery into its socket. Make sure that the positive (+ side) is facing up. Once the clips are locked into place, replace your battery cover and reassemble the fob.

Note: Some older Volvo models use another type of battery that is called the CR2025. CR2025 batteries have 7 tenths of a millimeter less than a CR2032, so you'll need be extremely cautious when replacing your battery.
