You can also make your own resource packs which let you alter metallic properties such as light emission, the roughness or materials. You'll be able to make your worlds come to life with new features like direct lighting, emissive surfaces (such as glowstone or lava) realistic shadows, reflections and transparent materials.
Be aware that this beta is still in development.
